Kingsbridge National Ice Center
Project Coming: Kingsbridge National Ice Center
Address: 123 Main Street
State: New York
Developer: Oxford Capital
Valued: 160 Million
The Developer is transforming the Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx, New York into the largest ice sports facility in the world. KNIC is developing the 750,000 square foot Armory into a 5,000 seat state of the art arena surrounded by nine NHL / Olympic size rinks, which will become a national training and destination facility for ice hockey, figure skating, synchronized skating, speed skating, curling and sled hockey.
The property also will have a 50,000-square foot dedicated community center, a 20,000-square foot health and training facility, 50-100 individual lockers including 12 NHL-size rooms, onsite parking for over 450 cars, equipment storage, maintenance and cleaning services and a pro shop for all ice sports.
The Armory, a national landmark built in 1917, consumes a 5-acre block, conveniently located near multiple means of public transportation including the 4, B and D trains providing convenient access to midtown Manhattan and the other four New York City boroughs and is approximately five minutes away from both I-87 and I-95, major interstate highways. It is also near many of New York City’s top educational institutions (Fordham University, Riverdale Country Day, Lehman College, Bronx High School of Science, Horace Mann, Columbia University’s Baker Athletics Complex, etc.).
The Fordham and Kingsbridge neighborhoods are considered self-contained communities. The primary avenues are generally two-way and the secondary side streets are typically one-way providing traffic flow in an east/ west or north/south direction. Improvements along Broadway, Jerome and Riverdale Avenues are generally low to midrise commercial structures or apartment buildings with ground floor retail space. The side streets are improved with a variety of residential housing types, traditional one and two-family brick houses, multi-tenant rentals, cooperative apartment and condominium buildings, attached townhouses and detached single-family residences. Fordham neighborhood has been a densely populated residential community.
